When location services are on, the camera writes a GPS block into the image: coordinates, sometimes altitude, direction and a timestamp. Nothing on screen tells you it is there, but any metadata viewer — or a curious recipient — can read it back and drop a pin on it.
The risk is concrete: a single photo of your home, your car or your child’s school can expose an address you never typed anywhere.
What gets removed
metavanish clears the entire GPS block, not just the coordinates:
- Latitude and longitude — the precise point the photo was taken.
- Altitude, direction and speed — extra positioning a phone may record.
- GPS timestamp — the satellite-derived date and time of the shot.
Remove just the location, or everything
If you only want to drop the location, clear the GPS fields and keep the rest. If you would rather share nothing hidden at all, strip every metadata block in one action — GPS, camera, dates and author together. Either way the picture itself is unchanged.
Private by design
Your photo is processed in the memory of the request and discarded immediately — never uploaded, never stored, no account. Checking and removing location data never sends your image, or its coordinates, anywhere.
How to use it
- Open metavanish and drop in the photo you want to clean.
- Find the GPS group — if the photo is geotagged, its coordinates are listed there.
- Delete the GPS fields (or remove all metadata) and save the clean copy.

How do I know if my photo has GPS data?
Drop it into metavanish — if a GPS group with coordinates appears, the photo is geotagged. If there is no GPS group, it was not stamped with a location.
Can I remove location but keep the date and camera info?
Yes. You can clear just the GPS fields and leave the rest, or strip everything at once — whichever you prefer.
Is the photo uploaded to check its location?
No. Everything happens in your browser session and the file is discarded immediately. The coordinates never leave your device.
