What a photo actually carries

A camera or phone writes several blocks of metadata into every image. Most of it you never see in a normal viewer:

• GPS coordinates — the exact latitude and longitude where the photo was taken, often accurate to a few metres.
• Camera and lens — make, model, lens, and frequently the device serial number.
• Dates and times — when the shot was taken and when the file was last edited.
• Author and copyright — your name, byline or studio, if the camera or an editor filled them in.
• Software and edit history — which app touched the file, and sometimes an embedded thumbnail of the original.

Why strip it before sharing

Metadata is useful in your own library and a liability the moment a file leaves it. A photo posted to a forum or sent to a stranger can reveal your home address through its GPS tag, tie several anonymous accounts to one camera through a shared serial number, or expose an edit you would rather not advertise. Removing it is the simplest way to share an image and nothing else.

How removal works here

metavanish rewrites the image without its metadata blocks — EXIF, XMP, IPTC and GPS all go. The pixels are untouched, so the photo looks identical; only the hidden data is gone. You can check the result by loading the saved file back: a clean file shows no camera, location or author left.

Private by design

The photo is processed in the memory of your request and discarded the moment you are done — never written to disk, never stored, no account needed. Nothing about your image reaches a third party, which is the whole point of removing metadata in the first place.

How to use it

1. Open metavanish and drop your photo into the page.
2. Look through the metadata it found — EXIF, GPS, camera, author and more, grouped and labelled.
3. Choose “Remove all metadata” and save the clean copy to your device.
